Take Me Out to the Ballgame...

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching Bailey play softball Saturday. I grew up traveling the entire state of Utah, and parts of Colorado with my Dad, watching ballgames and wrestling matches. We would drive hours from Vernal, Utah, to Price, Delta, Hurricane, to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, returning home in the wee hours of the morning.  Little did I know, that it was preparing me for a life with a family of athletes.

Once the kids were old enough, we were up to our eyeballs attending sporting events. Baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, and track meets became ingrained in our lives. Traveling the Wasatch Front, Nevada, Idaho, and Arizona, kept us hopping. There were many championship games. Some games ending with wins, and some ending with heartache.

Saturday, we approach the whole double elimination tournament thinking we would go home after the second game.We even had Mother's Day plans at Pappasitos, but fate had us there for 11 fun hours of, cheering, eating ballpark food, and sitting in a not so comfortable weather.

We kind of dubbed the team the "Bad News Bears."  They struggled most of the season, the top three teams pounded them. The girls practiced three night a week up until the last few weeks, but because of rain, not much practice.  So even a little rusty, these girl's battled to the end to beat the first and second place team not only once, but twice the same day.

After the first win I thought, that was lucky, and then they went on to lose the second one.  Double elimination meant we had to play the team we played the first game again, because they won their second game. I thought this is it, we can still make dinner. Even down by 4 or 5 they had a great inning, and came back to win the game.  We were in shock.  Rick had an appointment to get our roof replaced, and had missed the third game.  I got on the cell and called him to tell him we were in the championship game. He promptly return to the park and we settled in for another nail biter.  We went ahead and stayed there to win the game! We were so happy for Bailey.  She played well offensively and defensively. I will cherish that moment of excitement from years past, that visited me again on Saturday!

Sometimes it's great to watch the underdog win!
