The blight of the acorn

How can this cute little symbol of fall cause so much work. The acorns started falling around the end October and it is now February and they are still coming down. Our once smooth walking front yard has turned into a roller skating experience. I was looking through pictures the other day and found proof that we cleaned them up, just in time for a wave of them to cover the ground again. Every time Rick would clean them up I would think that has to be the last time...nope. Here was a day shortly after Jacob was born, Benz came over to hang out. He usually heads straight up stairs to play, but this day he was thrilled to be Papa's helper.

Cute little acorns.

Benz, Papa, and the oak tree. We have filled this garbage can up to the top... 3 times... with acorns!

Benz thought it would be easy just to sweep the acorns off the grass. I wonder if sucking on a bink makes the work any easier?

Papa taking a break...Benz kept at it.

Someone told us if we have a lot of acorns on the tree it means we will have a colder winter...they were right! I've always worried about getting termites not the blight of the acorn.

Our problem tree is a crab apple. It is so beautiful in the spring all flowered up. Then we spend the fall raking up and squishing through the rotten little apples. But at Christmas time we hang CD's in the tree. I feel like Pollyanna with all the beautiful light prisms gleaming into my house. Beverly Hall
