Weekend Writings...

What a wonderful weekend.  As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are blessed to watch or attend General conference twice a year.  The messages and spirit felt as each talk was delivered, was so up lifting and encouraging to me. It is a time for me to reflect on what is important to me, and what I need to do better.  Top that off,  with the blessing of supporting my grandchildren in their activities, and a beautiful drive to Brenham, Texas to see the wild flowers. Just loved the weekend.

Weed it out Wedneday

1. Interesting times we live in... Reading the news this morning was a bit much for me. I don't know why I feel inclined to do so. Though there is so much good, the bad, is always the focus.  The sad thing is, that the bad is being made out to be in some cases every ones fault but their own. Example... famous actor dies taking drugs, but its the drug dealers fault, or the doctors.  Yes, they are some of the parasites out there trying to hook one person at a time, but they didn't make the choice to take the drug. Great actor dies in a horrific car crash, it's the cars fault, he was driving it so fast.?  I am left confused. Seems everything in the world is getting twisted for some reason. Is it so we don't think ill of others fates? So we won't feel so bad about the consequence?  Does everything need to be sugar coated and twisted for our reading and listening pleasure?  Is it bad for one to think, and process on ones own?

I am not casting stones here, for I have many faults of my own.  I've made bad choices in my life, and have suffered their consequence. Just finding this new trend unsettling.

2. The dreaded "Coke" commercial.  Wow, I made a comment that it "bugged me" on a FB post, and got called all kinds of hurtful things.  No one ask the reason why.  I wasn't even watching the Super Bowl and was not paying attention to what was going on.  Then I hear people singing "America the Beautiful."  I started singing along in my head not watching the screen.  It was then, I turned to watch because of the unfamiliar languages.  After it was done I turn to Rick and made a comment that it was weird.  I guess it was like if  I were in Russia, and heard an American sing their Anthem in English.  You know you don't see Olympic athletes singing the gold medals winner anthem, right?  So guess even though the commercial was trying to show how this nation was made up of nationalities across the world, it seemed to do it in a unique way I found to be different.  My own take, for what it is worth.

3. Thought I was trying to help my daughter this week with a problem. Found to me, what was an insightful article for her to read. NOT! Didn't mean to make her feel bad, but I did.  Like she said it's "really hard" to be a Mom even if your children are in their thirties.  Good luck, to Moms everywhere!

So now my thoughts for this week are written.  Hope you are having a good one!

Catching UP

My what a busy last month we have had.  Jamie and Becky arrived in Texas in shifts. December 20th, Becky flew down with the two youngest, and Jamie drove their van with the two oldest.  Due to lack of beds, we set up a room full of cots for the children, and Jamie and Becky in the Guest bedroom with a port-a crib for Ady. The cots have been a hit, and kids love them and sleep like troopers for us. Jamie returned to Virginia after they found a house, to help tie up loose ends, and be there when their moving van was loaded.  Becky stayed here got the children enrolled in school, and has been holding down the fort while Jamie is away. Rick and I have had a relatively quiet existence, change into a bustling house full of little bodies.   It has been fun and intense at times, only because we Rick and I are sick.  I have strep, and Rick a cold, but this too shall pass.

Any way, Christmas was fun.  Cousins are thrilled to be back together.  Plenty of play and fun.  Pappasitoes was decided upon for Christmas eve dinner.  Kids were good, food was good, and it was so nice not to clean up a big mess.  Then it was off to our house for dessert, nativity puppet show, and  Christmas PJ pictures.
